Air Brake Practical Test

SAY:
1. I AM CHECKING THE TRACTOR PROTECTION SYSTEM (VALVE) (BRAKES MUST BE ON)

SAY & DO:
(Leave the engine OFF with key ON position and confirm wheels are chocked).
a. To release brakes I push the trailer air supply valve (Red Button).
b. I’ll disconnect both airlines to the trailer
c. I confirm when low air pressure warning comes on by 60 PSI (414 kPa)
d. I confirm when the trailer supply valve (Red Button) “pops” out at 40-60 PSI (276-414 kPa) or higher
e. I apply and hold foot or hand valve with minimum of 20 PSI to check for air leaks.

SAY:
2. I AM CHECKING THE PARK CONTROL VALVE

SAY & DO:
a. I am pushing the Yellow Button IN and I leave the Red Button OUT and I pumping the foot valve
b. I confirm when the park control valve (Yellow Button) “pops” out at 20-45 PSI (138-311 kPa)
c. I reconnect the both air lines to the trailer

SAY:
3. I AM CHECKING THE SUPPLY CIRCUIT

SAY & DO:
a. Perform the compressor build-up test with the engine running 1200 RPM
b. I start timing 3 min from 50 to 90 PSI (345 to 621)
c. In the same time I confirm if the low pressure warning os OFF until minimum 60 PSI
d. After 90 PSI I’ll wait to governor cut-out at 120-135 PSI (828-931 kPa)
e. I push In Red and Yellow Buttons to reduce air loss of 20-25 PSI (if I need I can make brake application to reduce PSI)
f. I confirm that the governor cut-in 20-25 PSI (138-172 kPa)

SAY:
4. I AM CHECKING THE AIR SYSTEM FOR LEAKS

SAY & DO:
a. Turn OFF the engine
b. I apply and firmly hold a full service brake application for 2 minutes
c. I can loose maximum 4 PSI (28 kPa) for the tractor and 2 PSI (14 kPa) for any
additional trailer.

* Don’t forget before go out from the cabin to PULL the Red and Yellow Buttons.
